Not only is Taylormade continuing to operate during the coronavirus lockdown, but it’s also diversifying into making scrubs for NHS staff.
When the current lockdown was announced, the West Yorkshire-based motorhome and campervan screen cover and accessory supplier faced a difficult decision — whether to close the business or self-isolate at the premises and continue to fulfil customer orders.
So owners Carolyn and Tina packed their motorhome and caravan, and down to the unit in Honley they went – with their dogs of course.
With the travel restrictions in place, orders drastically reduced, leaving Taylormade and its sewers with spare capacity. A chance phone call from Carolyn’s niece, Emma, soon changed all that.
Emma explained that a local soft furnishings company, Ashley Interiors, had also had been hit by the lockdown, and had diversified into making scrubs for the NHS, but more sewers and pattern cutters were needed to meet the demand.
Provided with fabric from the local co-ordinator, Carolyn and Tina now make the pattern for the scrubs, and cut out the garments to supply to local sewers, including their own staff who work from home. To date, the Taylormade team has made over 60 garments for the NHS alongside their usual motorhome screen covers.
Carolyn and Tina commented that until the current situation changes, they are more than happy to continue to volunteer their efforts to support the NHS staff, although suitable fabric is becoming difficult to source, so if there are any fabric manufacturers out there who are able to help, please get in touch by emailing sales@taylormade-covers.co.uk
